[NL] De rattengemeenschap van Ratterdam bezocht (‘s nachts) het Stadsarchief en bekeek de Atlas van Stolk-collectie. Tot hun grote schrik ontdekten ze dat er in de meer dan honderd afbeeldingen die ze tegenkwamen geen enkele positieve representatie van de rat te vinden was. De rat stond telkens symbool voor ellende en verderf: ziektes, horror en zelfs nazi’s.

De kleine Ratterdammertjes besloten hun krachten te bundelen om de moeizame relatie tussen mens en rat te verbeteren. Met een weggegooide stadsplattegrond, wat straatafval en heel veel liefde en aandacht creëerden ze een nieuwe kaart: de Ratlas—een alternatieve citytour door de ogen van de rat.

The rat community of Ratterdam visited the City Archive (at night) and examined the Atlas van Stolk collection. To their great dismay, they discovered that among the more than one hundred images they encountered, there was not a single positive representation of the rat. The rat was always depicted as a symbol of misery and doom—disease, horror, and even Nazis.

The little Ratterdammers decided to join forces to improve the strained relationship between humans and rats. Using a discarded city map, some street trash, and a lot of love and care, they created a new map: the Ratlas—an alternative city tour through the eyes of the rat.
